EIGHT NAMED NO. 2 ON NORTH AMERICA’S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS 2026
Eight is honoured to announce its ranking as No. 2 on the North America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026 list, marking a historic milestone for both the restaurant and the Canadian culinary landscape.
Founded and led by Chef Darren MacLean, Eight was created with a singular vision: to tell the story of Canada through food, hospitality, culture, and human connection. From its intimate eight-seat counter to its immersive and highly personal dining experience, Eight has sought to challenge conventions while celebrating the diverse influences that shape modern Canadian cuisine.
“This recognition belongs to our entire team,” said Chef Darren MacLean. “Every member of Eight contributes to creating an experience that is deeply personal, thoughtful, and reflective of who we are. We are incredibly grateful to our guests, our peers, and the wider hospitality community who have supported us throughout this journey.”
The ranking represents an important moment not only for Eight, but also for Calgary and Canada’s growing presence on the global gastronomic stage. Since opening, Eight has embraced a philosophy rooted in storytelling, craftsmanship, sustainability, and cultural exchange, drawing inspiration from the many communities and traditions that form Canada’s unique culinary identity.

“We have always believed that Canadian cuisine deserves a place in the world’s most important culinary conversations,” added MacLean. “To see that vision recognised at this level is both humbling and motivating.”
Eight would like to thank its guests, collaborators, producers, suppliers, and hospitality colleagues across Canada and beyond. Their trust, support, and belief in the restaurant have been instrumental in helping shape this achievement.
While the recognition is a proud milestone, the team views it as motivation to continue evolving, learning, and pushing forward in pursuit of unforgettable experiences for every guest who walks through the door.
As the restaurant looks ahead, Eight remains committed to celebrating Canadian culture, fostering meaningful hospitality, and contributing to the continued growth of Canada’s international culinary reputation.
